He was a pilot, born on 29th September 1918. He attended school with Karol Wojtyla (better known as Pope John Paul II) and kept in touch with him throughout his life. He survived the war and returned to Poland, living in Krakow. On 31st October 2008 he was given one of Poland’s highest honours, the Krzyzem Oficerskim Orderu Orodzenia Polski (The Order of Polish Officers) by President Lech Kaczynski.
