LESZEK JERZY KARCZEWSKI

He was a pilot, born on 7^th April 1906 at Warsaw.  In 1928 he graduated and was posted to the 1^st Air Regiment in Warsaw.  He was posted to the squadron on 26^th March 1941 and  killed during a bombing raid on Emden on 25^th July 1941, the aircraft was shot down by a night fighter flown by Oberleutnant Prinz Egmont zur Lippe Weissenfeld with a  Messerschmidt BF 110 and came down near Opperdoes, to the South west of Medemblik, Netherlands; he was buried at Hoek van Holland.  He was awarded the Cross of Valour, for bravery in action, by Air Vice Marshal Ujejski on 28^th June 1941
