LESZEK JERZY KARCZEWSKI


He was a pilot, born on 7th April 1906 at Warsaw.  In 1928 he graduated and was posted to the 1st Air Regiment in Warsaw.  He was posted to the squadron on 26th March 1941 and  killed during a bombing raid on Emden on 25th July 1941, the aircraft was shot down by a night fighter flown by Oberleutnant Prinz Egmont zur Lippe Weissenfeld with a  Messerschmidt BF 110 and came down near Opperdoes, to the South west of Medemblik, Netherlands; he was buried at Hoek van Holland.  He was awarded the Cross of Valour, for bravery in action, by Air Vice Marshal Ujejski on 28th June 1941
