Information received from Poland suggests that this IS RAF Benbecula and the following photographs show some pretty strong evidence of that fact. It is also said to have happened in summer 1944 although it is not mentioned in the ORB.
I realise this was posted some time ago but it is definitely not Benbecula. The wedge shaped hill on the right is called Eaval and the hill to the left is South Lee, both some distance away on North Uist with very flat ground in between. I live 1 mile from the airfield and see this every day
This is definitely Benbecula. I get to see this view every time I'm back at home on the island.

Thank you for that comment. Can you suggest where it might be? Somewhere in that area with a landing strip big enough to take a Wellington bomber.
